Cleaning the engine? Do or not?
I have the B200E injection engine, the engine has a little grub in various corners round the manifolds and round the lower engine block, i've waxoyled all over the frame and underbody, and inside the engine bay, so i shouldn't use a de-greaser..maybe i should of cleaned it all up before waxoyling around there... anyway, i've been resorting to WD40 and plenty of paper rags...quite a task and quite mucky....i often wonder if i have a readable blood level of WD40 since i've had so much skin contact with this stuff....
any suggestions? Will water with some washing up liquid/ or car shampoo screw with engine electronics? |
No mate, wouldn't have thought so.
If you're worried about damaging the underseal around the body, how about using small amounts of engine cleaner? Something like "Gunk" or "Tetrosyl" would work quite well if applied carefully, worryingly, so does Coca-Cola!! (Other brands of cola are available ;) ) |
I wouldn't have thought the engine bay was a common place for rust, but also its not really a good place for waxol, its not designed to cope with heat, and its flammable (certainly for a few days after application). Is this a special engine bay waxol?

Or this? http://www.bilthamber.com/surfex-comparison.html
Used this on my B200E & on my alloys too:thumbs_up: |
a prporiety engine cleaner such as "Gunk" is quite useful, or if not available, a "traffic film remover", mixed in a higher concentration will remove ligth deposits of oil and grime from an engine bay. Once you have cleaned the engine bay and engine, please remember to protect the bare surfaces, especially all the alloy manifolds, brake pipes and master cylinders with a protective film, or clear laquer, otherwise they will rapidly oxidise and look twice as bad as they were before, just covered in oil.
I used gunk on my engine bay [see my pictures] then wax polished the paintwork, all the alloy stuff was sprayed with a can of engine laquer to protect it from further corosion. |
