C30 / S40 / V50 Recall??

Found this on a local forum, wondered if there was a any truth in it...

Volvo announced on Monday that it will recall 29,299 cars worldwide of which 536 were sold in the USA and around 6,700 in Britain, over a problem with the gearshift lever. The cars in question are certain 2010-2011MY C30s and 2010MY S40 and V50 models equipped with 6 speed manual transmissions.

According to the company, the gearshift lever stud assembly may not have been tightened to the correct specification during assembly which may lead to the ball-joint coming loose. If this occurs, it may not be possible to engage, disengage or shift gears.

Volvo said that its dealers will torque the gearshift lever stud assembly to the correct specification free of charge.

This is true for many other MY's, not only the 2010/2011 makes.

It manifests itself at first as a gearshift lever rattle; the ball at the lower end of the gear stick starts knocking inside the joint when the engine is idling, noticed while waiting at red traffic lights for example.
You think that the grease has dried up but re-lubricating the ball joint does not solve the problem.

Nice to see it can be simply solved by tightening to specific torques.

Have just looked around a few sites online, it is just the 6 speed manuals that need recalling

This recall is for the ball stud on the GEARBOX selector on top of the gearbox not the gear lever itself .... 2010 and 2011 models only ..
