Replace S80 SatNav unit - Is it possible?

Hi, new member here possibly asking previously covered question!

I am hoping that somebody has sucessfully replaced or upgraded a SatNav unit in an S80 with anything that provides:

A) a better quality display
B) knows where it is going?

Not looking to update just the maps, am looking to change the whole unit if possible.

If this has been covered before, just a pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The RTI system cannot be replaced with something else sadly, there's nothing to replace it with. Same goes for the rest of the stereo.

Tbh I heard the RTI was rubbish but I have it in the V50 and although the display isn't like a TomTom for example I don't think it's too bad :D

A Swedish company called BluePower do an upgrade stereo unit for the C30/S40/V50 units, they may develop something for the 60's/70's & 80's eventually. We were talking about these at a meet last weekend. They are expensive, very difficult to fit and can be fraught with technical issues at the beginning, but once they are sorted, do a good job.

I have a 57 S80 with RTI, and I quite like it actually. I do however use a new Tomtom as well, when I'm doing long trips. I probably look like a geek, because I use the Volvo RTI system to show me a "wide" view of the map, which is useful because it displlays traffic info, and then I navigate with the Tomtom.

To the OP, do yourself a favour and buy some newer maps, and then you won't hate it as much. You should be able to get some quite cheap on ebay, not suggesting 2016 maps, but I got I think a 2014 or 2015 disc for a tenner.

I think 15 is the newest they go to with the RTI, I have found mine to be very good, not at all as bad as it's made out to be :)
