1999 V70 tdi low coolant level warning light
 

Hi; I`ve just done an oil/oil filter/airfilter change on my tdi.V70 (1999)...Upon restarting, the coolant low level warning light stayed on

There is ample coolant in the expansion tank!! it does not overheat and drives/runs smoothly

Can some one tell me where the low level coolant warning light switch is please???

Or has anyone any ideas?????

Its usually attached to the bottom of the header tank.

you have probably knocked the wiring and pulled out the sensor, it plugs in up under neath header tank, its a little black stick about 6mm dia, and 2" long, with wire coming off it, there are a couple of lugs that hold it in place

Not exactly the same as yours IIRC, but the 99/00MY P1's, share some parts with the early P2's
picture 3 gives you an idea of what you are looking for, the sensor sometimes go faulty, but often the wiring gets knocked and the sensor gets pulled partly out of housing

Thanks for those post answers.....Yes I found the sensor unit at the base of the expansion tank. It all seemed connected up ok so I removed it and gave it a wipe and checked the plug for good connection. all appeared ok and the float was moving ok. I decided to remove the expansion tank and give it a clean out just in case the float was a bit gunged up. When reassembled the warning light went out.
However after 80 or so miles that day and restarting the car the light came back on (bugger)

Decided it must be a defective sender unit so I`m awaiting a new one in the post........

Hi,
I had the same problem of my Volvo v70 2000, after changing the water pump, I found out the red warning light is always on, I think the sensor is faulty, do you think it is easy to change the sensor myself? I am thinking of ordering one and install it my self. Any guide from you would be a great help.

I have similar problem with my '00 v70xc (1. gen). Low level warning light was randomly on and off. Of course, there was plenty of coolant in expansion tank. However, after chaning the sensor for new oem one, the problem stays...

Is there some known issue with cables, or should I expect long hours trying to find the bug in connecting cables? Any comment is highly appreciated.
