2013 v40 d3 automatic gearbox replacement advice
Hi all,
I own a 2013 volvo d3 auto which has a tf80-sd gearbox. Recently it has started shunting really badly when I put it into drive so I tried a tcm update and and a gearbox oil change which hasn't helped cure the problem. I have resigned myself to having to change the gearbox but I'm a bit lost as to which gearbox will be compatible. The part number of mine is 1285186 on the red plate and there are a few on ebay with different part numbers so I was hoping someone could shed some light on whether it has to be an exact match or will a slightly different one will do the job? Also will it make a difference if the one I buy comes from a AWD car? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks. |

It will be less risk than buying a second hand one off a web site with no recourse. |

Thanks for the input. I will book it in with Volvo and see if they can give me a clear idea of what may need replacing and hope it's not too big of a bill!

If Volvo do come back with the conclusion that a new gearbox is required, then I would suggest your only alternative is a gearbox specialist.
Automatic gearboxes need fluid at pressure and electronics to work - they can only really be diagnosed whilst still in the car - unlike manual boxes. Hence you need to take it somewhere who has done a few before and can diagnose it. A new box from Volvo might not be as expensive as you fear and will come with a good warranty. |
