How do I remove my ignition key barrel and enclosure?

How do I remove the whole ignition lock, not just the barrel, the whole enclosure.

There are 2 screws underneath, which I have removed but it is still firmly in place. I cannot see any button or anything to release the barrel.

Help.

It is a p1800s, 1965.

My 2016 notes on a 1957 PV444. Note to turn to full on to find the detent that you push in. Hope it helps.

April 22-30, 2016: Ignition switch: My initial ride through Merryall ended with a stuck ignition switch. Disconnected the battery, removed the two small screws under the dash and pushed the ignition back through the dash. In the full on position, there is a detent that allows the tumbler to be removed. Cannot remove when switch is in the dash. The problem is deeper into the switch, and cannot be repaired. With the tumbler out, you can rotate the switch back to the left with a screwdriver. I will reinstall, but need to be super careful to turn only one click to the right. A heavy hand will cause problems!

The armored cable appears only to house the + wire to the coil. It does not appear to act also as a resistor, as perhaps in some earlier models. See following references:

Actually, my problem is the "pushed the ignition back through the dash". Do you need to unscrew a circular faceplate around where you put the key? What else after the 2 screws, do you need to do to remove the whole thing? If doesn't want to move for me. Is it the armoured cable stopping it from moving? How do I remove it from the dash?

Thanks for your help, this forum is brilliant.

PJB;

To remove the Ignition Switch (as it is part of the Ign Sw, Armored Cable, Ign Coil Assy), Lock Cylinder and chrome Trim Ring (12) must also first be removed (it does not unscrew, but comes away with Lock Cyl), and that requires Ign Key in Pos 3 and pushing the Retaining Button (it wouldn't be so secure it it could be removed without Ign Key! See below, also: http://www.sw-em.com/Broken%20Vintag...tion%20Key.htm ). Two screws securing it to the dashboard must also be removed, as you've already done.

Thanks - I was wondering if that was the case but was not sure. I will try and find the button to press.

Thanks again.

Pete

Hurrah! Managed it.

That button is tiny - took me a good hour+ to actually find it and press it. But I managed it.

Cheers for the help, everyone.

Pete
