V60 d5 polestar power delivery.

Hi,

I recently purchased a v60 d5 with polestar upgrade. 230bhp.

After a few weeks of getting used to the car I have some questions. What are other owners impressions of the power delivery of the d5?

Smooth and progressive is how I'd describe mine, it doesn't feel quick. Nor does it push you back in the seat.

I have admittedly stepped out of a v70 T5 with mods that was pretty nippy.

But the Mrs previously had a mondeo txsport 2.2 200bhp and the torque delivery in that was impressive it really shoved you into the seat all be it for a really small part of the rev range.

Any experience or hints or tips? Do they suffer from leaking boost pipes etc?

Thanks

Rica Stage 2 on that will more than likely make the modded T5 feel slow!

I feel the polestar software just makes the car nicer to live with, is yours auto or manual? I would of thought a manual would feel quite lively, but the auto does in my mind make it feel less powerful, not slow, but it doesn't give the feeling its actually delivering the power that the engine is capable of.

The D6 V60 with the same engine in standard form is the first car I've driven that actually made my head hit the headrest when i floored it in power mode. But then nothing beats instant electric torque in my mind!

I imagine the V60 holds the road a lot better and then makes the car feel slower, A v70 isn't the most refined for handling which to me makes it feel quicker than it actually is, if that makes sense? I would of thought if you hold the car around 2,000 rpm and then floor it, it would feel quick?

The newer twin turbo's definitely seem more linear in power delivery compared to the single turbo kicking in on the earlier D5's, in some ways I prefer the older single turbo D5's for that reason.

Thanks for the reply.

It's a manual which is probably why I'm a little deflated.

The v70 was a phase 1 so, 850 dna with around 260bhp so went like shiz. There was also suspension and roll bar mods so held quite well.

Who does Rica maps?

I’ve got the Polestar S80 D5 SE Lux and it’s better to drive more progressive and smooth, but it is rapid and does push you into the back of the seat and I’m used to driving powerful saloon and estate cars and the S80 feels on par with them.

should show a map with someone who shouldn't be too far away, stage 2 map is just a map, no mod's needed.

Really is an impressive difference, DPF/EGR still in place and work fine with the map too

Depending on the year you can buy the softloader from them and do it your self via the OBD port

Biggest issue with the D5 is that you run out of puff so soon having to change gears frequently, boost pressure sensors can clog up and fail, but you should get an engine system service light on the dash if that happens

I have the same setup with the Autobox. Smooth and comfortable in drive, then across into Sport completely changes the

From what I have read the Polestar upgrade is more about harmony between the Auto box and engine power delivery, however I maybe wrong.

It's 'optimisation' not an upgrade. Makes the car run the way it was intended to! Smoother, more flexible but not faster!

Rica Stage 2

275bhp in a 2.4 D5 S60 is more than enough to smile about. 57mpg average on the way back from a 100 mile journey...Love it!

Polestar is in my opinion not worth the money. Yes your warranty is still valid, but the difference between stock and Polestar is minimal. If you are not racing all the time, i think BSR and others like it are pretty safe. D4 here with BSR stage 1 250bhp/515nm.
