Rear wiper died
 

Driving home this morning, been to a family do, so 200ish mile run, and the rear wiper expired. I saw it do a very slow sweep and then was unresponsive. Never realised how much I used it, but 100 miles in the rain told me I need to get it fixed.
I’m guessing at the moment that the motor has died rather than the wiring. My long winded question, is... is the motor easy to replace or am I in in for a pig of a job.

Car is a 2003 with the wiper parking on the driver side.

mine suffered a similar fate...did a couple of slow sweeps followed by nowt. Bought a replacement motor assy off ebay for around £34, brand new replacement unit. easy fit, after removing the inner tailgate trim....you even get a new washer jet too. :)

Very easy, just watch out for the rear trim - first time I did this, the trim fell of as I popped the last clip! If it hits the ground, there is the possibility of it cracking...guess how I know (although it does repair easily with plastic cement).
Also, watch out for sharp edges to the plastic trim, best to wear light gloves just in case.
Only hard bit may be getting the rear wiper off the spindle. Might need some penetrating / release fluid and a bit of jiggling.

There are two types of motor depending on the year of the car. Ask me how I know!

Mine did that. It was the spindle corroding in the housing. Motor off, grease spindle and away we go.
First time out used mineral grease and the arm was slowing up after two years. Second time used silicone and it's been right as rain - pun intended :)
I think the washer fluid gets past the o ring on the spindle. be very careful of the nozzle, it's plastic and will snap it you look sideways at it.
Don't delay or the plastic gears will strip and they are not available.

Got a motor on its way, knew there was 2 types as last v70 parked the wiper on the other side. Made sure I’ve got the right one (hopefully).

There appear to be more available for other models too? This is for a 2005 but it too parks on the driver's side.

I'm in the same situation or so I thought. Rear windscreen wiper died and found the 15A fuse in the boot had blown, which led me to believe it was the same problem of the spindle seizing. I didn't have the courage to take it apart so bought a replacement off ebay. Connected the replacement to the wiring loom and it moved half a turn before the fuse blew again. I took the replacement apart and the spindle seemed to spin freely as per the other threads. Any idea what else could be going on?

Check the wiring loom where it passes through to the tailgate by the hinge, it's prone to breaking after a while. Try a web search for tailgate loom breakagee.g https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=202718
