Oil Level Sensor Replacement?

Hi All, I have 2008 XC90 and have had the Engine Management Service Required and the error code reads the oil level sensor. Have checked the oil level several times and also had it checked by local mechanic and all is fine.

It was serviced prior to me buying it. Is my next best bet to replace the sensor? I have seen one on ebay for £49. Is it a smallish job? Thanks, Luke

So what is your oil level? ... should be 2 sets of XXX on the dipstick below full.
May actually just be overfilled ..... Sensor, I'd guess its on the sump maybe on at the lower end of the dipstick tube .... hopefully someone will be along who can confirm.

Thanks. I will check again when my wife is home. Suspecting it may be this as recent service was non specialist/non Volvo person. If this is the case what is the best bet do you think? Have some oil drained? Oil change at local independent?

Draining some oil is easy, just depends how messy you want to get

a/ undo the sump plug but don't remove and let about 1/2 a ltr out into a cut off 2ltr coke bottle or similar.

b/ an electric pump ... Lidl and Aldi usually have them or eBay ....

c/ as you said your local garage.

Hope it helps.

They have put too much oil in , what you need to do is drain it ALL out and then put 5.7 litres back in , if everyone else has done their job right that should do it . but what you are supposed to do after putting the correct volume of oil in is to reset the sender with VIDA , it will then know that what ever the level is at that moment is the correct one .. sensors don't fail on these , they are solid state .
