Excessive smoke from exhaust burning oil!
 

Hi all hope some one can point me in the right direction. I have purchased a 55 plate 1.8 petrol v50. It had a misfire due to a burnt exhaust valve I have replaced all 16 valves and valve stem seals. Misfire rectified but it smoking worse now than it was before I removed the head to repair the valves. I suspect it's the oil control rings that are at fault could I be right or am I over looking something obvious. Pcv valve seems ok. To add all spark plugs are fouling and all pistons tops are wet. Why would the oil control rings suddenly worsen when they haven't been touched and were ok previously?

Is the smoking constant from cold through to operating temperature?

Seen this before, in fact I once did a friends headgasket on his astra,

Also did stem seals and relapped all valves into head,

With increased compression it smoked like a trooper,

Also seen it on engine in question with nothing been done to it, oil scraper rings seize into pistons with carbon build up and car had full service history and from memory only had about about 70k on clock

Smoking is constant not temperature dependant just like pouring the oil straight in to the bore. Oil level will drop from max to min in about 15 to 20 mins running at about 2000 rpm

That's what I was thinking. Only conclusion I could come to. Although completely puzzled by it.
What is the diff. If any between this engine and the one ford use as I have been told the rings are different?? Thanks Andy

Finally fixed this the oil control rings were at fault were all stuck in to the pistons. So that's it fixed! Thanks
