Steering Rack leaking.
 
Anyone have any luck changing the seals themselves. Ive heard it can be tricky to get right? 87 GLT B230E auto

no luck at all , it is not really economic especially if the ram is scored . I have heard that some reconditioned racks are just fitted with new boots and painted black . So it might just last until the year warranty is out before it fills with internaly leaking fluid and leaks out again .

I looked in to this a while back without much success. Long story short a rebuild kit is much rarer and pricier than a second hand rack so the economics just doesnt work out. Please update if you find a source for kits though, I'd certainly be interested for the future.

Thanks for the comments fellas. No clear solution then, what are the options longer term then?? Look to replace these racks with readily available one from other vehicles manufacturers as and when they fail??

Mk2 escort quick racks are readily available new, something like that perhaps.
Obviously wold need to look at dimensions etc with regard to bump steer.
