XC70 D5: ACEA C3 oil
Hi all,
I have ordered oil online for my xc70 D5 185: Shell 0W30 A5/B5. However, the box arrived today and it is indeed Shell 0W30 oil, but with the ACEA C3 spec listed, and not A5/B5 (link to the oil: http://www.shell.com/global/products...av-l-0w30.html) Can I still use it in my Volvo or better to send it back? |
C3 is a catalyst oil ( low Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur), so probably OK.....
This is from oil labeling explained on the 'honest John' site, C3-04 Petrol and light duty Diesel engines, based on A5/B5-04 mid SAPS, two way catalyst compatible, Higher performance levels due to higher HTHS. While the A5B5 may be capable of 18000 mile interval changes Volvo also recommend annual or 18k.
I do 10 to 12k miles a year, mostly A roads, no dual carriageway or motorway around me, given the known issue of failed dpf regens and diesel in the sump I am happy to change oil before it reaches its designed milage interval. Paul. |
I'd send it back. I remember you saying your car has 205,000 (I assume km's on the clock which is just under 130,000 miles) on the clock so you want the right oil at that age.
I do about 30k a year so the oil will get changed every 7-8 months :) |

Thanks for the replies everyone |
They have put C3 spec in my Volvo xc60
Hi,
I just fund put that my Volvo goes on c3 (Castrol 0W30) oil spec and not the A5 as specified. My intervals will be on 10k so my question is would it be ok to drive on C3 for another 8k? I am little bit worried about having the wrong spec thnx |
