B21A throttle cable

Had the usual problem with the throttle cable ie broken plastic adjuster nut.

Does anyone have the part number for a RHD car ?

I have sourced a genuine one but it's LHD and at least 6" too short.
I believe there was a recall on these cables due to the very same problem, but it was never rectified and new cables have the same flaw.
Very odd.

This looks like the right connections at the ends (the ad says it is for a B20f):

The ad says the part #1205876 but it is is not obvious whether it is for a RHD or LHD car.

I’ve just had a look at mine - wouldn’t it be possible to replace the plastic nut with a steel or brass one - cut a hacksaw slot so it could slip over the cable? Just an idea.

Good fortune,

Alan

Yes ,I recall that was a feature (slot) on motorbike /bicycle brake cables .
I used to have a collection of 70s & 80s motorcycles that I had restored, until I was banned from driving them by the missus after our daughter was born.

I'll have a root in the shed to see what I can find.
The cable I have is 1228951.

Yes, that is exactly what I mean (I’m a biker as well), that sort of arrangement was common on 1970s bikes. It hasn’t got to be very strong so a slim slot won’t make much difference. The nut stays static, so maybe you could Araldite it in place?

Good fortune.

... I noticed this ad on eBay, they claim to be able to supply or source any Volvo parts:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-Gen...53.m1438.l2649

I have no idea whether the service is reputable, but it might be worth giving them a call to see if they have the RHD cable (although sawing a slot in a nut would be much cheaper and probably work just the same).

Good fortune,

Alan

I've seen that arrangement on bicycle brake cable adjusters, car handbrake adjusters, and slots in the brake pipe securing brackets on the 240 front suspension turret.
The common arrangement on modern small cars I've worked on for connecting up the hand brake cable sections uses slotted metal tubes that fit over the cable but then pull tight as the thicker blob on the end of the cable slides into the tube.
