Front seat squab removal

Hi, are the seat squabs in my 144 just a tight fit or are they screwed into the seat frame. ie.can I just lift them out or do I need to remove the whole seat from car.

Never taken the seat apart but there are only 3 bolts holding them in so easy to take out for a proper look.

Have your squabs got flaps front and rear, full-width underneath but with press-studs on them as on Volvo 164 (mine hasn't as car was re-trimmed by previous owner)? If so carefully prise the two studs on each away from matching parts rivetted to seat base frame. Don't forget rear one. Bit stubborn so don't damage the flaps: can be done without removing seat from car.

I need to replace the Pirelli straps and padding etc. Looking at the VP page just what do I need to get to complete the job?

If you look at Woolies website, you need 10 metres of 50mm wide Pirelli webbing, 4 x webbing clips and 8 x webbing plates:

If you go ahead and do the front seat back rests, then you need some 38mm webbing for the "up-and-down" strapping, for want of a better description. Originally, the lumbar support control webbing would have had 50mm Pirelli webbing (the side to side strapping which is controlled by the lumbar support control knob). However, I have found that fabric webbing or old seatbelts work much, much better.

It's a time consuming job, but very rewarding resulting in superbly comfortable and supportive seats.

What year is your car though? Some of the later ones had a metal spring base underneath the seat squab.

Yes,metal spring.

When they were last reupholstered the covers were stapled down so the whole seat has to come out. The cushion foam has flattened on onside and needs to be replaced.
