Help ! T5 Cutting out for no reason !! Stupid
 

Hi

I have a 850 T5 estate 1994, done 110000 miles, no problems at all to date. However, I have now had 4 instances of the engine cutting out (usually at speed) for no apparent reason. The car then refuses to start (although the engine turns over) for about 15 mins. It then miraculuously starts OK. The Volvo dealer I bought the car from has had it twice and put it through the magic computer thingy, but to no avail.

This is the best car I have ever had by a mile, but this fault is driving me crazy !

1-Has anyone out there had a similar experience ?
2-Can anyone give me any advice ?
3-Where do babies come from ?

If anyone could help me with any of the above, I would appreciate it (I think I can handle point 3 actually).

I had this fault on a 2.5 GLT - it would start OK with a very slight hesitation, then as soon as my revs dropped, the engine cut.

I had to take out the plug leads and dry them to restore the car's ability to go, but this wasn't a permanent fix; even spraying them with damp resist didn't do the trick.

It might be a mucky throttle body and I'd certainly get it cleaned in any case but I had to sell the car and get another one - sorry to the current owner....:-(

Government new development. Instead of speed cameras they disable your car in the most inappropriate place to cut your average speed down. The only other method they use is gridlocking our motorways. Seriously though I had a friend with a 740 with approx same problem. His turned out to be plugleads which at the slightest hint of damp/ rain etc cut the car out. WD 40 didnt do the trick. New plug leads. No problem.
Seems to be a funny fault with the carbon type plug leads as they get older. You could also try the old trick for seeing if there is a problem. Find a really dark spot and start engine. Look for little blue flashes where the leads are short circuiting. DONT do what friend did and touched the plugleads. He still has the dent in the bonnet where his head hit it!!!!!
