Obd Bluetooth reader for car info

Took the xc70 out for it's first tow with me yesterday. One thing that struck me was that there is no coolant temp gauge. I'm used to having oil, coolant and engine oil temp information to hand. On most cars iv had I have fitted aftermarket gauges so I can see what the car is doing.

I don't want to fit gauges to this car and have come across these obd Bluetooth devices which communicate with an app. It appears they access the cars sensors and relay information to the app on a phone.

Has anyone used these before?

Yes, they're very popular.
I've been using one for several years and have a few videos on my YouTube channel showing various features.
I even use one on my motorbike.

Brilliant!

Will be able to see coolant temp, gearbox oil temp?

Also is it a obd2 on a 2008 xc70?

Coolant temperature yes but I haven't used it on my Auto to view gearbox temperature so can't comment.
It also reads engine fault codes albeit giving only generic OBDII codes as opposed to the more detailed Volvo specific codes so I use Vida for more in depth analysis.

I only use the ELM327 Bluetooth dongles paired with the Torque Pro app as I'm on Android.
I also only use the version 1.5 dongles as I can't get the version 2.1 to show coolant temperature.

Your V70 will still be OBDII the same as mine.

To add what has been said.

I have an iPhone with one of the adaptors, butas iPhone have to go with wifi option to connect.

Android does bluetooth as said, not sure if does wifi as well.

I used Dashcommand

torqueing of

torque pro is great, have used it on many different cars and it works great, coolant temp worked on all ive tried and very useful when diagnosing problems like semi working thermostats, i dont think gearbox temp is a parameter ive seen but perhaps its on auto gearbox cars, but for less than a tenner its worth a punt .. if you have an android phone just hook up to an ELM327 bluetooth obd, and try it out, the basic torque is free.

"Car Scanner ELM OBD2" app shows 70-80 sensors in Volvo cars: DPF soot, ATF temp, AT gear, Haldex torque, battery state of charge, alternator, EGR error, etc.
After installation just choose your profile in app settings: Volvo 2010+, Volvo 2014+VEA, Volvo D2, etc.

I have the ELM car scanner but run it using wifi.
I fing it useful for monitoring the dpf soot levels and is entertaining to watch when a regen is taking place 👍

Ooh how do you do that? With which ap? I've never had any DPF issues? But never noticed when a regen is taking place.

uknowiama - this app shows the DPF regen. Choose Volvo 2010+ profile for your 5-cylinder D5 engine:
