Tesco Super 99 or 97 Octane
 

Just a ponderance as I fuel up in several places in the UK but did notice this. In some stations Tesco Super is labeled 99 Octance but in others it is labelled 97 Octane? Anyone else noticed this? Wierd.

Not every Tesco sells the 99 RON Super yet but they are rolling it out to every store, see this link:

In St. Austell Cornwall they only do the 97 ron, hope the 99 stuff comes this way soon.

the problem i have found is it costs as much as vpower & i have to drive off route to get it....

Personally I would probably take vpower over the tesco 99 stuff, both the T5's I have owned I have found after running on it for a while they need a tank of something like vpower to get them smooth again. High octane but low on cleaning additives would be my guess.

yeah, I agree, just because the octane - or cetane if diesel is higher doesn't mean it's better.
Vpower is good stuff. BP Ultimate is also good stuff for smooth engines - but doesn't really produce the same reponsiveness as v-power does, so v-power gets my vote.

which is what i do... i was under the impression supermarket fuel was supposed to be cheaper but it doesnt seem the case

Doesn't always seem to be the case any more, it's more like they look at the local market and just match the local price :(

I would have thought Tesco in particular would be selling their fuel a bit cheaper given all their recent publicity, but then their local forecourt is as busy as ever so I guess they don't see the need any more.

I don't use the Tesco 99 stuff that often, but mainly because it's usually so busy there when we go shopping that I can't be arsed waiting.

I do know my T5 hates their standard 95 unleaded, again I usually use super but when the end of the month looms she often gets a tank of "normal". The car feels seriously gutless on the Tesco 95, noticably worse than other brands.

FWIW had a chat with a tanker driver. His take on Tesco was that their petrol (can't vouch for diesel) is mainly imported, Russia was mentioned, and quality is such that it just meets the requirements. Other supermarkets, Asda, Morrision's, source their supply from refineries direct, Conaco mentioned, so quality is higher.

Of course all this may just be bull but there must be a reason why 'branded' fuel is always recommended (and as said if near supermarket generally price marched to the same cost).

Just a few thoughts :)

V-Power here is 4p/litre more than Tesco 99, and they're less than a mile away from each other. Have had no problems running on 99, it doesn't like the 97 and won't run on the 95. I haven't noticed any great improvement in running V-Power, and certainly no improvement in economy that others talk of.
