Car smokes badly with bad smell but no codes c30 1.8
As per title my c30 1.8 petrol smokes really bad with rotten egg smell yet there is no codes, it has new air filter new spark plugs, new oil filter and oil and new pre cat lambda yet it still does it, drives well maybe slightly down on power.
Compression is very good on all 4 cylinders. Any suggestions?? Maf? Injectors? Fuel filter? |
Can I ask moderator to move this thread to correct section please

Likely to be the oil control rings. |

For a modern engine to be 'badly smoking' then this can't be the oil control rings on the pistons if that were the case the engine would be absolutely knackered and the oil will be very blue and smell of burnt oil. I haven't seen an engine physically burning oil in such an obvious way since the 1990's where valve stem seals and piston rings did actually wear out.
This must be white smoke (steam) so there's water getting into a combustion chamber, and the 'eggy' smell is the steam's reaction with the CAT. |

Thanks for reply guys I should really mention I just had my cylinder head overhauled so I am not suspecting valve seals as there were replaced, car doest take any coolant and compression on cylinders is really good so I am ruling out head gasket problem, I fitted some cheap spark plugs maybe them or egr valve or potentially injectors although they rarely fail so I am thinking about piston rings.
