C70 Anti Skid Service Required

Hi there

I've recently had the Anti-Skid service come up on my dash and having taken the car into a Volvo dealer been advised that i have a faulty Brake Control Module (BCM) and that it needs replacing at great cost.

However having done various searches on this forum I now believe that it is likely that I can remove the BCM and get it repaired at a much lesser cost.

What I can't find any links to is where the BCM is located on my 2006 C70 and how easy/difficult it is to remove.

Does anyone know where it is and can point me in the direction of details on removing it, also, can anyone recommend a company that repairs said BCM?

Many thanks,
Marc

Repairers

You could try "whocanfixmycar. com". You don't have to use the repairers but it should give you some idea of the cost and the garages should be reasonably local to you. I'm not exactly sure where the part is, I think it's under the bonnet up by the windscreen end. The diagram I looked at was from a 2007 model LHD & was in-line roughly with the steering wheel, I don't know if it swops sides for RHD models. You might be able to find something on Youtube. Perhaps some more knowledgeable users of the forum will be able to help more. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for your reply.

I can't see it from just looking in the engine bay so can only assume it is hidden behind another component. I'm happy to have a go at removing it myself but just trying to work out where it is and what is involved.

I will though check out YouTube and see if I can find something on there.

Hopefully someone will get back to me who has previously tackled it.

Manual

Google "Volvo C70 Technical Documents - Volvo Owners Club". It's the document where I got the diagram from. Full Details, Section 3, lots of info. in this document. I'd attach it except I'm too much of a technophobe!

In Addition

Take a look at this site. See if anything sounds familiar.

Marc, before doing anything else get the codes read by someone other than the dealer and let us know what they are.

If you ask on here you may well find someone local with Vida who can do that for you.

Hi Fred

Thanks for the links. The C70 guide seems to indicate the BCM is located under the bonnet but no real clue as to where it is.

The other link to ECU testing is great and it looks as though they can repair the unit and the cost is £165.00. I've just got to work out where it is and how to remove it.

S60 thanks for you reply. I took it into a Volvo dealer and they put it on their kit and advised that the BCM needed replacing. Unfortunately though they wouldn't give me the error code, just the advise regarding replacement. I imagine the advice therefore is correct and with Fred's link I now know where to get it repaired. Just got to find how to remove it.

If there is anyone with Vida that could confirm what Volvo have said that would be great, I'm based in Swindon.

Regards, Marc
