Remote Start XC90 - does it work?
Never has for me. Usually not an issue as I have the parking climate that warms the car up nicely. But today I was coming home and started the parking climate and it said “not connected to the mains” - I assume that’s because it’s warm (for Yorkshire...) and it wanted to cool, and I assumed it’ll only cool using parking climate if plugged in (that’s my theory). So I got home and thought I’d see if remote start would work - but still doesn’t work. It says it’s starting but then just get the red box saying “unable to start your Volvo”. Does it work for anyone? There’s a full charge, it’s not plugged in, it’s locked, lots of fuel etc etc.

But my car is a D5 without parking climate. :wq |
Works fine in my car, except when there are server side issues. Mine's a D5 though with Aux Heater.

I'm sure there was something in the manual about you only being able to use it twice, and then you have to start it in a regular way to "reset" those tries. I suppose a security feature. Cannot for the life of me find any reference to it now. Anyway, try starting the car normally, stopping it, then see if remote start will work.
EDIT- Although that doesn't make sense now i've read your post properly. You say its never worked, so wont be that. |
What is remote start meant to do in a T8, started is little different to off, apart from a few lights on the dash? The car never starts the ICE on turning the key, even with a flat battery.
Ps...i has parking climate (AC cooling) working last week on battery (~50% charge) I’m sure... |

On checking the manual under “preconditioning” I think I might be right. It says (obvs) the cabin is warmed using the fuel burning heater, but it does say “Preconditioning is available only when the car is connected to an electrical socket” but also “If the car is not connected to an electrical socket, it is still possible to cool the passenger compartment briefly in a warm climate by starting preconditioning directly.”. So I think that’s the issue - warming is fine when not plugged in as it uses the auxiliary heater, cooling, other than a quick blast, isn’t |
