dashboard removal/replacement v40 1.9 2003
 

v40 1.9 tdi 2003 dashboard removal/replacement.......this is not a guide......its just the way i did it......please let me know of any mistakes,and i will try and edit them.apologies for not been very good at explaining how to.....thanks to ANTZ for supplying me with the dash and steering wheel.....:thumbs_up:......the thing is i am unsure of,is whether i have showed all of the dash bolts to be removed or not.....i have not shown which clips to remove to get the dash out....but it was not too many....do not be put off too much by the picture shown with the dash out,as quite a bit is still in place.just do the reversal of what you removed....tips..... while you have the dash out check that the matrix is in good working order....remove the metal plate with the vin number on it from the edge of the dash(2 screws) and put on replacement dash......clean edge of replacement dash.....ideally 2 people needed to put dash in......be careful when removing the plastic clips to loosen the wiring,as there is some sharp metal under there.......WARNING......put the receiver in the dash first(it sits above the dash clocks)before putting the dash in.and dont forget to connect it up first thing once the dash has been partly bolted in place..... and make sure the padding on top of the air vents are well stuck down too.....good luck:GEEK:......for picture 20 please open pdf file thanks

If your removing the dash yourself when you remove it from the car take it out the passenger door, I found it easier as the weight of the airbag in the passenger side isn't light lol.


Oh and yes, my hand found those sharp areas many times, Even more times when putting the loom back in....

Just removing the dash from my 2001 2.0T.
Reason is that the heater core is leaking inside the passenger area.
It's really ridiculous that you have to take out the complete dashboard for this.
When you remove the bolts and are ready to take out the dashboard, do you have to lift it up first or pull it towards yourself?

Great pics very helpful. I’m about to undertake the same job (to replace evaporator). Did you happen to notice whether the foam strips connecting the vents needed to be replaced? I’m wondering if I should order a few feet of that stuff in case it is necessary.

On mine, foam strips were all disintegrated. So yes, most likely you will need some.

Thank you. Hopefully I can find something decent at the hardware store. Just noticed that the Nissen heater core that I ordered did not come with the foam sealing strips either. Great.

Hey butoruuu - I will be replacing my evaporator next week and had planned on proactively replacing heater core at the same time. I can't make heads or tales of the VIDA instructions for the heater core. Did you take any notes or do you have any tips?

A couple of other things
 

I just removed my dash using this really good series of pictures. I didn't do it in quite the same order, but that's neither here nor there. My car is a . I found that two additional tasks were necessary on my car (2003 S40 1.8 GDI):

1. The loom from the dash has four connectors to the fusebox next to the CEM. They're difficult to get at. I removed the CEM (2 screws), undid the 2 nuts holding the adjacent white plastic relay tray (to get a bit more room) and then detached the lower fusebox bracket from the body (2 screws), which enables the fusebox to be pulled down and out just enough to get at the connectors. The connectors can then be released and threaded through the diagonal bracket just above the bonnet release. There are a couple of securing clips holding the cable in place that also need to be detached.

2. The passenger airbag wiring needs to be disconnected. The easiest way of doing this is to disconnect the orange connector clipped to the left hand side of the space behind the heater control panel.

The photo's further up the guide show the steering wheel and stalks being removed. There is no need to disturb the steering wheel or stalks.

Remove the plastic covers over the stalks and behind the wheel. Then undo the four bolts that attach the column to the body under the dash, this allows the column to drop down and the wheel to rest on the drivers seat. There is plenty of room to remove the dash out of the passenger side door.

When lowering the steering column there is a black single wire attached to a spade connector - this needs to be disconnected as there is not sufficient free play in the wire, hence the need to remove the steering covers.
