Volvo part number please for a battery. 1992 240SE

Hello.

Can anyone advise me of the part number of a current Volvo battery that would be suitable for my 1992 240SE please? 2.0 B200F engine. Manual transmission.

A Volvo dealer will deliver but they tell me the the Volvo battery for my 1992 240SE should be part no 1324250 but that the number is expired and there's no updated alternative part number. I'm interested in buying a Volvo battery because I have seen other thread(s) saying they are usually a reasonable price and are good batteries.

Thank you - Stephen

Go to Halfords. Buy a battery that the book says fits your car. Done

Your battery will have the CCA rating and Ah.
Match that and the physical dimensions and buy from the dealer.
Genuine batteries are surprisingly reasonable on price and cheaper than Halfords in the long run because they last about twice as long.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes. As a similar idea, my back up plan is that I might get my very local Universal Tyres depot to get a non Volvo battery for me 'cos they provide good stuff and a good service. But I do want to use a Volvo battery this time if I can.

Yes. I had read in another thread about the Volvo battey's value and longevity. Secondly, they also must obviously look appropriate in a Volvo engine bay. :)

I did wonder about buying from a Volvo dealer on Ah and size ... and I can look for CCA as well. I'm not sure if a Volvo dealer can get a battery on that basis? I'll 'phone on Monday. Oh and it needs to be designed to slide fit on to the battery tray as well, and have the terminals the suitable way around for the connections.

Can someone remind me, who is the dealer that gets mentioned on here occasionally as giving a good price and service please?

If anyone has a part number that would help a lot, please?

I think FRF Volvo Parts Department are the helpful Volvo dealer often mentioned in the forum as giving good service and good prices.

They tell me that the correct part number for the 240 battery is 30659797 now. They spoke with an office within Volvo to check that. The new part number battery is also used in eg some 440 and some 740. It is 520 CCA, the original was 440.

And they say from looking on Google Images that the terminal positions are what is needed for my 240SE, with the terminals closest to oneself, negative is on the left. Here's a link to a picture and the part number can be seen in the image. Volvo battery part number 30659797 from Google Images

They charge £62.88 after discount. Unfortunately they're a long way away from me and they can't send batteries out by carrier.

I can get it delivered from a more local dealer's by their van for £68.78 after discount. They are just going by the part number I have given to them and they say if it's wrong they can't send it back. So if anyone can confirm or deny the part number as being suitable I will be grateful please.

I'm basically convinced anyway. It's a Volvo car battery so the width will I'm told be right to fit the baseplate, and the Google image shows the terminals as corect. Here's hoping ...

I bought the Bosch S5 005 for £75 incluidng delivery and VAT. https://advancedbatterysupplies.co.u...t/bosch-s5005/. I made that decision because I could not get a Volvo battery delivered, except on a "no returns" basis from an East London dealer.

The S5 005 is a slightly higher CCA and Capacity than the Volvo battery, and for a similar price to the Volvo battery I got the Bosch name and a five year guarantee.

Advanced battery supplies also offer a similar CCA and Capacity battery under their own name with a five year guarantee for £50 incluidng delivery and VAT.

I found the battery by looking on the web site under "Batteries for Volvos". The search by vehicle model leads to a heavier more expensive battery, the S5 008.

Their site usefully shows the terminal polarities for each battery to help ensure that the correct battery is chosen.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice.

Battery 30659797 fits in my 240

1 Attachment(s)
I just bought a Volvo battery 30659797 to replace the Volvo battery 1324250 that was in there before. The above is correct, the main dealers currently do not have a replacement part number for a battery that is recommended for my 240, but I had heard that the 30659797 would fit. Also the main dealer will not take a return on a battery once sent out, unless they sent the wrong one, or unless it fails in the three year warranty period. My main dealer (Johnsons Volvo Gloucester) did however order me one in (next day), measured it, opened the box to see which side the positive is (apparently all European batteries have the positive on the lower right hand side) to save me an unnecessary trip. They then offered me to drive over and try it out to see if it fitted and it did. No modifications or adjustments required to the existing battery tray. The battery tray is a later plastic type with easy plastic clip to secure it. The car is a 1989 UK spec 240GLT 2.3 petrol etc. I did nt try it out on my old 260s.
The Volvo battery cost £65.50 incl VAT with VOC discount, which is cheaper than the local battery specialist quoted for the that battery Varta or Bosch recommended for a 240.
Battery specs are 520/ 60 ah, size approx 8½" high, 6½" deep, 9" wide, not sure what that is in kilometres.

Well done Theo.

You seem to have a very helpful local dealer. I would treasure them.

To my mind the choice is between that 3 year Volvo battery if one can get it delivered or collect it, and the slightly higher capacity 5 year Bosch battery - the bargain price five year £50 if one doesn not want the Volvo or Bosch name. :)

Yes beware the batteries recommended by some specialist and general suppliers. They tend to up-sell to a higher specification, and their prices aren't always competitive.

P.S. Why not treat yourself to some nice rubber battery terminal covers? I got some rubber ones made by Durite for side entry cables but without any holes for cables. I made neat round holes in the ends, and easily stretched the holes over the cable end terminals. Kushtie.

Thanks for this helpful post. I'm looking for a replacement battery for my '89 GLT. I fitted the current one in 2009 so I can't complain.

I was going to order the Varta E24 but the terminals seem to be the wrong way round. I'm going to order this Volvo 520A one instead.

Kind regards
Lucien
