Selling 960 3Ltr 24v

I know there isn't a selling facility on the Forum, but I would appreciate other's experience/advice on selling an older car.

I've owned my 1996 960 3Ltr 24v since 2001. I bought it with 42,000 miles on the clock and it now has 185,000 miles. I've looked after it meticulously, in particular changing the oil every 5000 miles using Mobil 1 0w-40 fully synthetic oil. Over the past seven years the oil changes have been annual, at about 2,500 miles, as I have used the car less and less. The mechanicals are all in good condition and the car runs nicely.

I'm now using only my XC40 and the 960 just sits in the garage. It is in excellent condition, with no significant rust that I know of.

I know I can't sell the car via the Forum - but can anyone advise me on the best way of selling a good older car, preferably to someone who will give it a further lease of life?

Hi Stan,

There is a Selling page on here, just click on 700/900Series General on the main page, then when it opens, you should see a bar with three options, second one is titled 700/900 Sales, Click that and you can see what people are looking to sell.

Just create a new thread, with your cars details, you can also upload photos, but I always end up with them upside down, perhpas someone more tech savvy may assist.

Good luck with your sale.

Cheers
Steve

Good evening, Stan. I would endorse the sound advice offered by Steve, above. You most definitely can sell your car via the forum, as many who have will testify - just be mindful that most on here will, like yourself, already own at least one Volvo.

Compose an honest, comprehensive advert supported by good quality photographs. A new, ideally advisory free, MOT is always a good idea, especially if yours is running out.

The 960 is a lovely, if under valued, motor car with a niche market. You could offer it on one of the 'specialist' sites, which tend to be populated by more serious knowledgeable buyers than some of those who haunt the likes of eBay.

Another alternative might be to consign it, with a sensible reverse, to auction
with someone like Matthewsons. Word of mouth among fellow enthusiasts may also bear fruit. Are you going to the 'National' this year? That would also provide an opportunity to showcase your car to a sympathetic, captive audience. Do do all that you can to prevent it falling into the hands of the banger racing community, et. al.

As Steve also said, good luck with the sale!

Regards, John.

That is because the photos are too tall. If you edit the original by reducing the height it will upload in the correct orientation. It can also be the reason some photos upload on their side.

Many thanks, all, for your replies. I've still got mixed feelings about parting with the old girl, but I will probably take action in the next week or so. The MoT (no advisories) runs out in August.

I will check out the selling page as advised by Steve. Thanks again.

Stan.

When I sold my 1997 S90 last year it was Gumtree that produced the best interest.

Lots of good clear pictures, an honest description and a reasonable price.

It took about a week for the ad to get any traction, but once it did I could have sold the car several times over.

Funnily enough, my old S90 is for sale on Ebay again now.....!
