2002 V40S Overheated Engine

Hi folks,
My negligence led to my dear old Volvo V40 Estate recently having its 134,000 miles engine roasted by coolant escape on the motorway.
My enquiries since about engine repairs evidently make this a futile exercise given the engine won't start and I can smell exhaust fumes from the coolant bottle.
So, it would appear the end is nigh.
Offers from scrap merchants range from £150 to £60 for the complete car, inclusive of pick-up from my doorstep.
Having owned Volvos continuously since 1983 - I always meant to join the VOC!!!! - I'm anxious that anyone who can make good use of secondary spares such as the towbar, handbrake cable, battery, sound system, etc., please contact me.
Best regards,
George.

Common failure on these cars is of the main power coolant hose parting company with the lower radiator - the metal clip corrodes and the pressure of the cooling system blows the hose off, dumping all the car’s coolant.

I see you’re located in Alloa - try Volvo breakers Headswood Garage in Denny, Stirlingshire, as well as SCB Edinburgh and Stewart Metals in Glasgow, if you are fond of the car and want to source a replacement engine.

I was once quoted £130 for a 1.6 engine for a 2000 X/reg S40, but transport/labour may make it expensive.

Hope this helps.

If, however, you do decide to break the car, could you let me know if the front wings are ok? I’m looking for replacements for our rusty ones.
