warranty claims

Purchased 2014 xc60 roughly 4 weeks ago from a toyota dealer also purchased extended warranty from them for 12 months. 1 week after collecting the car noticed a fault with radio cd reversing sensors, turns out to be a software problem. Phoned toyota dealer got advised to take to main volvo dealer as came with 5 year selekt warranty, read owners handbook seems correct abit miffed off as also purchased extended warranty from them as well feel conned as didnt see all cars paperwork til collecting the car. Anyway took car to local volvo dealer turns out 5 year selekt warranty is invalid know reasons given to reasons why. Ok have toyota extended warranty no problem, volvo start work we are given a very nice 2017 v40 courtesy car, turns out the software unit has failed and needs replacing £1100 fix. What i can gather warranty company has agreed to pay but not til 19th december, volvo wont give us our car back til bill has been paid and want the courtesy car back, leaving us carless, toyota arent interested as had their money and its down to warranty company, volvo suggested we pay the £1100 bill to get our car back, i really dont what to and dont see why we should. Really think customer service with all parties corcerned volvo, toyota and warranty company is awful. ANY THOUGHTS??

If you are within 30 days you could threaten to reject the car if Toyota don't pay the Volvo bill immediately or give you a courtesy car until 19th December. The Toyota dealer could simply wire the money over to the Volvo dealer.
The Select warranty you refer to is only given by Volvo dealers on used stock and is for one year. New Volvos come with 3 years 60k warranty, which can be extended to 4 years 80k or 5 years 100k.
Incidentally this is the second 'problem' this week with a used XC60 purchased outside of the dealer network.

Sorry to hear about the trouble.

Did anyone explain to you why the warranty company will not settle the claim until 19th December?

I would take this up with the Toyota dealer who sold you the car, who in turn should work with the warranty company to help resolve. Also try contacting Toyota customer service at their head office and express your frustration with the local dealer and lack of support.

Am thinking if you pay Volvo now you'll have an even tougher time recovering your money at a later date.

Good luck and hope it turns out ok.

No nobody has explained why warranty company cant settle claim til 19th december, volvo have been in contact them we havent spoke to them in all honesty. Toyota really dont seem interested have spoken to them numberous times and cant understand why volvo wont release our car as warranty company have agreed to pay. Think all companies are at a stalemate and its us who are suffering

When is your 30-day period up ?

https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rig...mer-rights-act

If you are within the 30-day period, you need to speak to the Dealer Principal at Toyota, not any old sidekick. Tell him you WILL reject the car if he does not sort it within 24 hours. You may need to communicate by email and Recorded Delivery letter. In essence, he needs to know you are deadly serious about rejecting the car. You will suffer no loss on this, indeed, you have no car for four weeks as of today so have nothing to lose.
Kick them hard.

scotchglen Nov 18th, 2017 21:48

scotchglen Nov 18th, 2017 21:50

thank you nigel day wiil make some phone calls monday, no point at the weekend yes its stiil in 30 day purchase period

NigelDay Nov 18th, 2017 22:05

Just to keep in your back pocket, have a look at what is on the Volvo dealer (national) used car stock list within your price range. Then you know (and can tell Mr Toyota dealer) you have an option to reject, walk away and buy an alternative from a Volvo dealer where these 'warranty arguments' will not occur. I think Mr Toyota will do the right thing. A £1000 payment on their account until 19th December is really not a big ask.

NigelDay Nov 19th, 2017 09:21

Worst case scenario. The insurance company pay on 19 December. By good old-fashioned cheque. Many still do. It gives them a few extra days interest on the money. Add Christmas post, Bank Holidays and cheque clearing times and - yes you guessed it. No car until after Christmas.
