T4 finally turning into a beast

Hi guys, as you know I've now got my car up and running with the Holset. I was planning on getting a piggyback ECU fitted and getting it mapped with bigger injectors. I can't afford it ATM so I decided to see what it ran like on the stock map on VXRs.

I will add that I have fitted my T4 with a fuel return line and adjustable FPR so I can fine tune the fuel pressure.

I removed the tiny 312cc injectors and fitted the VXR 470cc ones. Checked the fuel pressure was 3bar. I have read that the siemens EMS2000 can compensate for up to a 30% increase in injector size so i wasnt expecting it to run well on these 50% bigger injectors.

Anyway, I started the car and was surprised to see after a few mins it idled perfect with an AFR of 14-15. Took the car out and part throttle AFRs were spot on. Wide open throttle AFR were ok if a little rich. The car was only running 9psi boost. So I fitted my MBC and gradually tweaked the boost up.

I got to 20psi before the WOT AFRs were spot on and OMFG the car is a monster. Im sure the injectors could still do more. That's at 3 bar fuel pressure so I still have scope to raise pressure. It hits 20psi by 2700rpm. I'm leaving the boost at 20psi until I can get a proper map as I don't want to push my luck. I know this turbo can push plenty more boost. I actually accidently proved this when the hose fell off the MBC line yesterday and the car was spinning in 4th at over 100mph (on the test track obv very cold tarmac). I looked at the gauge and it was at 30psi. Doh. Lucky to get away with that one. Thank god for forged rods!!! But jeez was it quick.

I will try and get a few vids at the weekend if I can. I'm a very happy chappy ATM.

Will get a power run booked in and do some datalogging with the Torque app as I'm a bit worried about timing advance on a stock map. I also need to get an EGT gauge fitted. It may just feel fast as I'm used to low boost but it'd be nice to have at least 270 until I can afford to get it mapped properly.

Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere. Happy days.

Mitch.

it will be good to see a vid im on a budget and want to get 280 hp. Unfortunately i have got the knowledge to do it on my own. Whats a piggyback? also are the afrs hard to fit yourself?

Hi mate. A piggyback ecu is a unit that sits on top of the factor ecu and intercepts the signals to factory ecu allowing control over fuelling and timing etc. When you research you will find after 235bhp it is hard to find anyone who can tune the T4 ecu. I didnt fit my afr gauge, my mate did it in 3hours for 30quid. Im **** with wiring tbh. 280bhp you will need bigger turbo, injectors, a map and exhaust at the minimum mate. It all depends on how far you want to go and how big your budget is. On standard rods you need to limit the boost to 1bar before 3500 or you risk bending the standard rods.

Mitch that's well good I'm well keloid, if your spinning in 4th your well over 300 mate for sure inwas running 20psi from the 14 t and getting 292-300, with deCat and pistons and rods forged, I never had wheel spin in 4th unless it was pretty wet, and only towards 4500rpm. Sounds savage. Send me the link for those vxrs again please.

Keloid=jelous thanks to predictive text on the iPhone :)

Glad to hear it mate - I'm getting withdrawl symptoms too - been without mine for over a month and still not got an MOT....!! This weekend though should see it done. Then roadtax. And hopefully, a new job.....! What tyres are you running at present?

Hi Tommy! What injectors were you using for 300 mate? Mine is going in for a dyno run on weds to check fuel and egts. If I saw 270-300 on standard map I'd be over the moon tbh. I'm sure it would do until its mapped. If it fuels fine I'm going to keep tweaking the boost until the ECU has a fit lol

Did I send you a link to VXRs then? Can't remember?

Just a couple of quotes i read on a site:

"I know stock EMS can do about 380hp. But you need a tuner to set it up right.

Stock pistons have been used up to 460hp/550Nm T4 1855"
