Door trim adhesive
 

I mean the flat panels along the bottom.

These seem to last for years, then suddenly begin to buckle and peel off at one end.
On a previous car, after a failed attempt to glue them back, I found some new old stock, carefully preserved in a pack with wooden padding to keep them flat. I used the recommended double-sided trim adhesive stuff, and they looked wonderful for half an hour. Then they started to curl up at the ends.
Meanwhile, the old ones, laid flat on a shelf, had returned to their proper shape, and looked now in perfect condition.

One on my present car has just started to curl away at one end, so I'm back in the old game of trying to fix it flat.

Any observations, experience, advice here please?
Last time round I ended up using black self-tapping screws and large washers.

Self tappers and washers!?!?!?!?! Thats a sure fire way to ruin a door, trim piece and create a nice place for rust to take hold.

Tiger seal and duct tape to hold it on overnight until it dries. They will never come off again with tiger seal holding them on.

Thanks Antz - never heard of Tiger Seal - I'll give it a go.
Can that be injected behind a panel that is beginning to curl, or does the whole panel have to be removed and both surfaces cleaned up?


It would take more than duct tape to hold it flat while the stuff sets. Last time I tried to glue one it needed a piece of wood wedging betwen the panel and the side of the garage to force it flat, but on release it still curled again.

An old Volvo hand said use No Nails glue.

At the time, having tried various doubled side tape, I was after a whole replacement strip.

The No Nails worked first time. Dont expect it to be ever removed in one piece though. I got mine from Homebase.

Tiger seal is stupidly adhesive. Nothing held on with tiger seal ever comes off in one piece ever again.

Ive fitted boot spoilers, sideskirts and 240 door trims on with it before and its basically a bonding for life.

You dont need to remove the trims and clean them, just ensure its dry in the gap you want to bond shut, squeeze some in, clamp it tight by any means necessary (lots of duct tape works for me but if you need to wedge it then do so), wipe off any excess with white spirit and leave it to dry for 24 hours.

Itll never come off then.

I did this method with my BMW E36 and some sideskirts 3 years ago. They are still held on them and its only tiger seal holding them on. When I come to remove them ill just buy another set o rip these ones off in about 1000 pieces no doubt.
