Horrific oil leak!
 

2003 xc90 D5 2.4 an oil leak from hell? Seems to be coming from between box and engine, and real bad when the car is running. Rear main oil seal?

sounds like the core plug, which is a widely reported issue.?!?

Scared myself reading about rest main oil deals now!

I would say it was most likely the core plug, the early ones were rubber, the new type metal. The thing with this leak is oil will have probably contaminated the clutch also if it is a manual gearbox.

I shall be grateful its automatic then!

My 2004 xc90 manual had the core plug blow late last year, typical I was away so my wife had the pleasure of sorting it out.
The clutch and flywheel needed replacing at the same time so a bill of ~£1400 just before Christmas.
Obvious advice but don't start it up, will need to be towed to garage.

From what I've read, was the "modified" plug fitted from MY05 onwards?

Anyway of knowing if it's been replaced with a metal one. This whole thread has made me worry about MY2003 :(
