How do you test a Turbo Control Valve (TCV) out of car

I've looked and cant find a previous thread about this. Apologies if I've missed it.

I have a V50 2.0D one of the 3 has probably died. Only want to replace the bad one.

Thought maybe some bright spark on here would know how to use a battery and vacuum meter or similar to check operation???

I think the brightsparks are stomped by your question really. :err:

I don't think you have 3 TCV's, and I think you mean vacuum guage but this is just for checking engines health? will probably be corrected on that.

Might be best if you lead with what problems you are having with your car first really.

Car isnt producing any boost, can go into more detail later, busy testing boost now. I swapped all the TCVs and no change. Vacuum side seems OK (I think)

Also dont know if might be electrical... I have had Vida 2 days so new to it ;)

I don't know much on the 2.0D, you have a DPF?

have you changed the TCV already?

YM05 Aug 31st, 2017 14:59

Swapped all three for 3 I know work... exploring this 0642 code... signal too low.... Vida recommends check ECM terminals for corrosion and short circuit to earth in 5v sensor power supply... lets hope its a terminal corrosion issue as looking for an earthing fault sounds hellish

I'm really not following why you're focusing on vacuum valves based on those codes and if you follow the individual fix paths in Vida, it won't take you in that direction.

My biggest concern would be the CEM/ECM software issue and I would pull the CEM to check for poor connections first.

Yes I think youre right..going that way now... I didnt really understand the 0642 code until I started digging into Vida more an hour ago.... I'm new to VIDA so didnt know how to get past the codes.... .... a mechanic suggested to check the TCVs first but then he didn't know about this ECM code... It only took me an hour to swap the TCVs over... hope it is only poor connections

Hi
Have you already cleared the fault codes to see what comes back again?

Iain
