Insurance cost

Just wondering if my 2001 V40 is a classic for car insurance yet?
Has anyone got theirs on classic insurance? who with?
I'm simply after the cheapest option out there, I only use the car for a 2 mile commute when it's raining !
Otherwise I'll have to sell the Volvo and get a Smart FourTwo or something horrible. :speechless-smiley-5

I think it needs to be 20 years?

My car insurance was £183 with Tesco this year (7-8 years no claims). If I went with another company it would be more like £300.

Tricks for the lowest quotes, get quotes 21 days before renewal, follow the guidance on MSE website. Try putting someone low risk on there.

I have a V40 diesel, 115bhp, leather, climate control etc.

It isn't the age of the car that counts, but whether it is a second car and only used occasionally. My C70 is on a classic agreed value policy with a limit of 3000mls pa. It only qualifies as it is not my main car.

Depends very much on the firm, and the use to which the car is put. When I was commuting in my Rover P6 it didn't qualify for classic insurance despite being nearly 50, but if you're limited mileage and not commuting then 15 or 20 is the typical threshold age.

As per the other posts, play around with near the renewal date.

I'd also suggest logging into something like the autotrader website for their insurance search service - it'll give you results across many insurers and you can pick the best/cheapest etc based upon 3FT or FC.

That's what I usually do each year & it's worked out ok for me.
