Over revving
Bit of an odd one this, I have a volvo S60 D5 with the 185BHP euro4 engine. Over the last couple of days when i go for a gearchange and depress the clutch even though my foot is off the the throttle the revs will rise a good 300RPM or so beforedropping down to idle
Would anyone have a rough idea what causes this, |
How many miles have you done?
|
120ish thousand iirc.

Over Revving during driving
Similar issue nearly with my 2003 D5 V70 2.4 S 62000 but hardly used for 2 years before I got it. Oil changed ECT.. ..
Running like a train until last fuel fill and now over revving through gear change and lack of power. As I pull away and through each year change revs freely up to to high fees but without much power. Reminiscent of limp home mode on my other car! I've put diesel fuel additive Redex in to see if it's injectors? Any help very welcome!!! Regards RC |
Same
Hi I've just joined this forum because I've just bought a S60 D5 2005 with this same problem. When you say Air Leak martin_r_smith how do I go about finding this?
Did you ever fix the problem samuelellis? |
My 185 has done the over-revving thing when changing up at high rpm with the turbo boosting for at least 50k miles. I'll try it on a trailing "throttle".
|
Trailing "throttle" = no rpm increase when changing up.
|
This behaviour is something Ive commonly observed in some cars fitted with DMF. Not my V70 D5 I must say, but my 47k C4, wifes 143k Grand scenic, and others. I put it down to behaviour of the flywheel... Pressing clutch disengages engine from road, dmf causes inertia to be maintained somehow, revs rise momentarily due to sustained inertia before engine slows.

Check for the excessive oil build up in a intercooler. Could be it as well. Just make sure it's not becoming a "runaway" diesel....
