XC60 Halogen lights
Been looking at XC60s after either an R Design lux or SE Lux but have come across an R-Design with pretty much every option Inc the ones I want (sunroof and driver support pack).
Only issue I'd convinced myself I'd never get a car with Halogen lights again which puts me off, along with the half leather half cloth seats. How do people find the halogen lights in these, i suppose they should be a lot better than the terrible ones in my S40, but not a patch on xenons? |
Decided to give it a miss as the halogens and manual seats would bug me.
Its a weird one though, not sure why someone would take an R Design and option it up with driver support pack, safety pack, winter pack, panoramic roof, 20 inch wheels etc but not start from the R Design Lux model which didn't add a great deal of cost in the first place, especially compared with the price of all those options. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...m=16000&page=1 |

I have an XC60 with the halogen lights - 2016 model.
The lights - well they work......to 1920's standards..... But since then - planes went supersonic, built nuclear reactors, kicked dust on the moon..........went from Apple 48K computers to iPhones....... ....I still scratch my head at my 2016 "vintage" halogen lights...... My Mrs has gone to the "dark side of the force" when her V40 came with LED's. Well the dark side is one hell of a lot lighter than the vintage side.... If you go Xenon or LED - you will NEVER go back..... |

I couldn't drive a car now with standard halogens, it would simply annoy me too much. |

...and me.
Having had 2 XC60's one with halogen and one with Bi-Xenon - I'd never get halogen again. Are you sure you want an R Design? The suspension is stiffer, the wheels are bigger and less durable and tyres more expensive. 20" wheels are a liability.... on models with 18" wheels, 40k+ miles is easily possible from a set of sensible tyres (Pirelli Scorpion, etc) SE LUX I think is the way to go - Bi-Xenon headlamps and the Active TFT instruments which are substantially better than standard. |
Thanks all, backed up my thoughts on the lights. My current S40 is pretty much impossible to drive on unlit roads at night.
I prefair the styling of the R Design Lux over the SE Lux, although if the right spec crops up in SE Lux I'd go for it and I've included them in my searches. It's just finding one at the right price with driver support pack and sunroof. Also the V90 is now starting to get to the point where they are coming into budget just so could considered one of them potentially although hoping to move fairly quick as my car has got the hump with me and decided to attract a stone in Wednesday to crack the windscreen, on top of a slow puncture and the £180 I've just had to spend on new rear disks and pads. |
V60 rather than XC60 here, but I too praise xenon over halogen, I was unsure but am damned happy I got a car with them fitted. My last car was pretty dangerous to drive on dipper beam and the difference is amazing.
I feel your pain in desiring a car with a sunroof, took me nearly a year to find the right spec V60 with a sunroof at the right price. Very worth it though! I agree with others about looking for an SE Lux over an R Design Lix, but yes the styling of the R Design is nice. But where do you spend more time, outside your car looking at it? Or inside the car driving round? That’s where the comfort factor pays off. V90 is definitely worth looking at, the few I’ve sat in have had even better seats, and the huge sunroof lets in so much light. Not to mention it’s the best looking Volvo around right now |
Well, a few weeks back the right car did come up at the right price that ticked all the boxes, annoyingly it popped up on Tuesday afternoon and was in Leicester. Spoke to the dealer and they wouldn't reserve it, only option was to commit to buy and put down £500, was reluctant to do that. Started having second thoughts on Wednesday afternoon and after doing HPI etc phoned to put the deposit on but it was already gone :(.
In the meantime I've had to have new disks and pads all round plus a new windscreen so decided that will have to pay for itself so will keep the old S40 for another year or so and see where used prices are on new shape XC60s next year. |
