Advice please.
 

Might seem a dumb question but I need some advice. I'm wanting to change the right rear headlamp level sensor as it the right hand side headlight is not responding, not going up and down when switching the headlights on, I posted up about this on 8th, Jan but had no replies.
The strange thing is the car has been on Vida but there are no errors logged so I'm guessing that the sensor is not working properly but enough to fool Vida.

Can anyone tell me how to get the plug connection separated from the wiring, I'm trying to do it lying on my back under the car, also any part numbers and pattern parts advice would be helpful, Volvo prices are stupid money, I've seen one around £50 secondhand and wondering if it's worth a gamble but want to confirm I'm going for the right one.

My advice would be to do some proper diagnostic work. Guessing at faults and replacing parts is an expensive process.

If you have access to VIDA then there are lots of other tests you can do apart from just reading codes.

You can look at live data for sensors and compare to expected values or other sensors.

You can activate components like relays, motors, pumps etc to see if things are working.

That's what I would be doing.

vida should also be able to give you the part no. and all the other things as suggested by B1mcp:regular_smile:

However, the car has been on Vida as per my original post at a local Volvo specialist where I have the car serviced but no errors were shown, although they were not happy and don't know why, yet, there were no variations in voltage readings when the car's rear suspension loaded and unloaded.
They were supposed to get back to about it but to date I've not heard back from them, it looks like I'll have to go and rattle their cage, not something I like doing, but 100% right that somehow I need more definitive answers.
I have got OEM part numbers but prices I've seen for "genuine" Volvo sensors are obscene, hence my ask regarding alternative sensors and part numbers.

Thanks again guys for your input, I'll get to the bottom of it eventually, these newer Volvos are no where near as reliable as my old S40 or my old 440 :rolleyes:

Apologies for the very late update, had a lot going on recently!
However, I replaced the right rear headlamp level sensor with a cheap one, about £56 from Autodoc (Bugiad was the make) and it seems to have cured the fault. I monitored it daily for a month to check the headlights were doing the leveling "dance" and everything was OK, so was very pleased to have a cheap repair for a change, 😉👍
