Bevel Gear oil leak

Hi All,
Been a while since I've had to request some advice on here, but it's not something I think I've come across before on here to date.
I've got a significant (both ends apparently) oil leak from the bevel gear housing. First spotted with a pool of oil on the drive. Filthy reddish brown colour. My garage has confirmed it's not power steering or gearbox (manual box) fluid and that initial inspection confirms bevel housing oil is low. Short test drive after cleaning the whole area re confirmed a substantial leak from around the housing.
Question before I start looking for a replacement bevel gear: Is there a seal kit for this, or is it the whole unit? - I know they're only exchange from Volvo if the shaft is toast.
I assume the seal kit supplied when the spline sleeve is done is for the gearbox shaft?
It's all got to come out anyway to sort it so I might as well do the sleeve and these seals anyway - but am I looking at an exchange bevel gear? This one has done just on 90k miles.

Cheers
Ian.

Hi Ian

When i replaced mine i took the one apart. I can see why Volvo offer them as an exchange unit as the way the gears are set up and the correct backlash is applied takes specialist tools. I don’t remember there being any kind of gasket on the main flange of the 2 half’s though i could be wrong as what oil remained in mine was foul. I did have some pics on Flickr but they are a pain to try and put on here but can try if your interested in looking.

Thanks Owen, no don't worry - the garage will be dealing with it anyway. I was wondering if it might be a simple shaft seal - but sounds like it'd be a dismantle job anyway which is not realistic tbh. I'll give FRF a call tomorrow to see what the damage is going to be for a replacement.
Hope you're well :-)

Cheers
Ian.

If it helps, my second hand unit was £380 with 1 year warranty from volvo Saab breakers ltd. Unit delivered direct to my indi who fit. BTW, mine was damaged by a worn spline drive which was changed at the same time.

Labour cos inc oil £300 if I remember.

Just a bit of an update for reference.
So the current exchange price for the angle gear (with as much discount as FRF could squeeze - there's not much margin to play with on these) is:
£1209 .... that's approximately a 50% increase in 5 years (when I had the last one done).
I decided to pass on the offer and go down the second hand route for roughly a 5th of the price with a limited warranty.
Sleeve Service Kit + the oil came in at £152 all in - which I did take them up on :-).

Cheers
Ian.
