Heater Blower Fan problem

Hi All
Got a problem with my 1994 T5 Auto Estate
The heater blower fan and is not working
I have removed the fan and cleaned and used some WD40 to make it run more smoothly
When I connect the fan back into the circuit the fan will run quite happily for a short while and then stop
Turn the ignition off and back on the fan will restart and then cut out
To prove if its my fan at fault - I need to try another one ( just posted a request in the wanted section )

If its not the fan - what else could be at fault
Has anybody else had a similar problem ?

Thanks

WD40 is not a lubricant. Use oil sparingly. How long will the fan run on the bench? Does it cut out under those conditions? Will it run continuously when set to Auto or at at any other speed settings?

I would think it is highly likely it is the fan. I took mine out and ran it on the bench, various start/stop cycles directly with 12V battery. Most of the time on the bench it would work but there was the occasional time when it didn't which I think was due to damaged windings. Fan replaced and has been fine ever since. It is also a good time to ensure you are on top of the cabin filter replacement schedule. For if that is blocked it will cause the fan to work a lot harder.

Thanks - will have a look at the cabin filter

This has happened to our various 70-series cars several times. Each time a replacement blower motor and resistor pack has sorted it.

It starts by running intermittently, and then not all. And you only realise how much you use the air blower when suddenly one day, you can't!
