what clutch in a 1990 740 estate

Hey guys, I have a 1990 swedish built 740 estate with a b230E kjet and 4speed and electric overdrive, would any of you guys have any idea what clutch could be fitted to this car? Local motor factors cant even find a Volvo 740 in there guides and looking on eblag, amazon etc seem to list umpteen variations for same model.
As this is my daily I would like to order correct clutch for it and have it changed with minimum fuss.
Dogs wont be impressed if there car is stuck on ramp for a week with no gearbox!
There seems to be several diameter plates and spline combinations.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Accoding to the Haynes Book of fantasy, the B230E uses an 8.5" clutch so 'tis thi one :

Fits a mutlitude of Volvos! ;) :D

You're welcome - that's the only one i could find listed with the information available so i just hope it's correct - at least you have a part number to go from now!

If ntothing Local I do have clutches in stock

manxdog Apr 7th, 2018 23:42

Thats great, if no joy with local I will drop you a line.
Going to need some decent rear springs shortly, once clutch is done thats next job when funds allow.
Looks like you have a lot of usefull stuff!
I hopefully have a 360 project lined up soon to and that needs usual top mounts, so watch this space!

Thanks again guys, your real helpful.
Ted.

Hi, thanks for letting me know you have clutches in do you have a pair of heavy duty lifted rear springs in at moment to?
Both for my 740, its not overly happy with 1/4 ton of dogs in back of it!
Next problem is I am on the Isle of Man, woyld this be much of an issue or can you use royal mail?
Next is payment, are you ok with giving me a bank account number i can drop it in, i can only deal in cash at mo.
Thanks,
Ted.

You could try a pair of these Ted :

That's the best price i know of for a pair of them on ebay, won't necessarily stop it hitting the bump stops but will help to minimise it a bit.

Assuming you have "normal" suspension (not Nivomats) there are loads of springs available on ebay and shocks as well, should be able to find a complete rear axle set for about £50 for both springs and shocks.

I used Suplex springs and although not listed as such, turned out to be KYB shocks, same on the front end, totally transformed the car! All for under £125 for all 4 corners, springs and shocks.

I can't remember who Suplex are a subsidiary of but it's one of the "better" springs manufacturers.
It's a bit like Kilen, they are a subsidiary of Lesjofors who were OE manufacturers for Volvo, Rover and a few others. In short you get the same quality at a better price. ;) :D
