Hi, I have bought this car, not had it delivered yet; went to see it before the sale and it seems like a good buy. One thing that concerns me, the car is fitted with a Holley carburettor on a Hansen inlet manifold, does anyone know anything about this conversion? A little research has shown that Holley carbs were used on Volvo marine engines but not so far as I can see on cars.

I intend to use the car for historic road rallies and Targa rallies.

If the carb isn't too big and it's jetted correctly it may work very well. Seat of the pants will tell you but a couple of hours on the dyno might prove beneficial. A chat with the previous owner would be on the cards if I was in your shoes. Enjoy. It looks a nice one. Amazon Cars could be a useful source for you. They may well know the car.

Hi Derek, The car was used by Dave Mathewson prior to the auction, he was a little doubtful about the carb feeling that a pair of SUs would be a better option. My main worry is eligibility for historic rallying. If anyone used this set up in the past it would make things easier to justify and cheaper than having to source the SUs.

Have been in contact with Amazon Services, they were aware of the car being on the market but had no knowledge of its spec.

Just can't wait to get it delivered to me!

I agree that a pair of well set up/refurbed SU's would be the best set up. Certainly they would be fine with all of the rally rules. The Holley and manifold should raise some of the cash needed as it is an interesting combo for a road car and a bit different. If it works well! What model Holley is and what choke size?

I have used SU's and DCOE's on B20's when rallying all around the world and up to 15,000 feet. I would say from experience the SU's are the safest bet especially if matched to the correct cam. When using an aluminium inlet manifold I strengthened between the head face and carb mounting especially if the ports have been machined.

I've just heard car will be delivered next Wednesday, can't wait! Hopefully then I can get an assessment of how the current set up works.

Hi, have switched the car to a pair of HS6 SUs. Bought secondhand they seemed clean and correct. I suspect from my SU tuning guide that they were off an early P1800. However I just cannot get the car to run cleanly. Under acceleration car just stutters and misfires. Has twin Facet electric fuel pumps, Malpassi fuel pressure regulator. It ran fine before. Car is with local garage they are equally mystified. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi
so a pair of carbs of a 1800 ?
your engine is it a B 20 2ltr has it got free flow air filters
you might even have a warped inlet manifold
if the answer to any of the above is yes my guess is yes
its running weak
so rejet the carbs with the right needles

hope that helps
