I need a replacement speedometer in miles for my 1993 Volvo 240. The part No is K35200/3544611. I cannot buy new as it's obsolete. Can anybody help?

Does the whole thing not work or is it just the odometer? if it's just the odometer then replacement gears are available:

If the speedo doesn't register speed at all then this website gives a good explanation of how to test the speedo/wiring/sender. I bought a 9v AC power supply from ebay for testing purposes

Thanks a mil. I will try these solutions. Our local engineer thinks it's a problem with the hybrid circuit (Grrrk to me!)

Unless the engineer has a specific reason for thinking it’s the hybrid circuit (not sure what that is) then it’s very likely to be a broken gear for the odometer. Yours is just one of squillions that have failed in this way.

Read through the explanation on the Dave Barton site- if you’re at all handy with screwdrivers etc then replacing the gear should take you more than an hour or so.

Note- if you do take the speedo apart, take it apart somewhere as clean as possible, like your kitchen table not a workbench. The D'Arsonval movement (the mechanics of the movement of the needle) is vulnerable to foreign objects - notably little bits of metal, ie filings from grinding etc. Which will be attracted by the magnets and the result will be a speedo needle that sticks at certain speeds.

Also note- you don’t need to remove the speedo needle, just undo the two screws holding the face in place and that will give you enough access to change the gear.
