Towing electrics
My van has a 13 pin socket . The first couple of times attaching the electrics to the car it was a doddle. Latterly it’s been getting more & more difficult. I tried to hitch up on Monday & no way in hell would the electrics line up.
I then remembered about the green thing to twist the vans electrics into the right position. This worked perfectly. I’ve had 3 vans with 13 pin electrics & 4 tow cars & never had a problem before. Has anyone else encountered this or is it just me? |
Yes its a known thing, we had a blue one supplied with our van. Don't know why they never used to be a problem.

Yes you need to use the blue or green “thingy” to realign the inner section.
The problem comes from removing the plug from the socket before you have fully rotated it. If you look at the plug straight on the lug inside with the pins should be at 90 degrees to the flat piece on the outside. If it isn’t then you will not be able to reinsert. I always keep a blue thingy in my boot just in case. You can also fit it over the plug to keep the pins clean and dry. |
For those who are not aware of this alignment gadget, plugging can be a complete nightmare. I have several and have been paid handsomely for them on sites when I see those struggling. Why on earth do they not supply them with the electrics kit?

Hmmm... I'm not aware of the gadget and plugging is slowly becoming a nightmare. I thought the plug was broken and was looking to replace it this season... can you post a link or a photo?
