Space Saver

Hello all, I bought a full size alloy (secondhand) for my 98 c70 coupe (not convertible) to get rid of the spacesaver, it's exactly the same wheel as on the 4 corners, took out the plastic thingy in the bottom of the spare wheel well but the wheel is still a inch higher than the hole thus the carpet does not sit quite right, wheel and tyre size is 205 55 16, is this normal? Or am I being a prat
Cheers

I think the spare wheel well is made for 205/50 x 16 tyres rather than 55. I had the same issue on my 854.

Don't know if this is true of the C70-or any other Volvo for that matter-but with some cars if you wanted a full size spare you also needed a "riser"usually a couple of pieces of shaped styrene foam or some such which went on the boot floor and then the carpet sat on top of that so it was kept level.Obviously you lose some depth of the boot.

I've put a matching alloy in the wheel well of my V70 OK but that's only a 195/60/15 so 3/4" narrower and the V70 boot is bigger. The wife's Kia CEE'D came with a spacesaver but I prefer a matching spare so I bought another alloy, this is too wide to fit in the well under the regular boot floor panel so I knocked up a couple of 'spacers' form some expanded polystyrene packaging I had in the corner of the garage which raises the boot floor by a couple of inches. B+Q and others sell slabs of polystyrene for insulation so could you get some and cut some suitable spacers yourself?

Cheers everyone, looks like I'll be manufacturing some risers, once again thanks.
