Replaced DRL's with LED's

Hello,

I have replaced the standard sidelights with 2 LED strips sunken into the lower side grille.

The basic sidelights were not very bright and being close to the headlights didn't seem to have much purpose.

I fully expect to get plenty of negative comments here but i thought i would give it a try (only cost £15) and i haven't decided if i will keep or perhaps try another style.

Anyway i thought i would share.
Regards
Ian

Did you leave the rear lights connected or did you go down the Audi route and have lights only at the front?

I think that they look pretty good and see that Porsche have also gone this route. Post up the details of your install as a 'how to' if you have the time please?

My only concern is the insurance aspect in terms of a 'modification'...... that could put the kybosh on it for me.

Ibge,
The purpose of a forum like ours is that you can present ideas and mods such as this for the interest and information of the members. Of course it might not be to everyone's personal tastes, but you shouldn't have to fear receiving a flaming from anyone.

Unless the car you are displaying is a disco perhaps ;-)

Different and why not, well done.

On a separate note, is the chrome grill kit the one from ebay that you have fitted?

JimG Mar 16th, 2011 21:06

I would have gone for LEDs either side of the grill like the XC60, but being that the bonnet is metal it probably makes it a much bigger job!

The install very was very simple, i just spliced with connectors into the wires for the side lights.
I did expect to get an error light with the bulbs missing for the sidelights but the LED's must be drawing enough.

The flexible strips are from ebay and they are ones that you can cut down to the size needed.

The rear lights i have left but i am thinking of a similar update.
