Dog guard pneumatics
Just bought volvo dog guard with empty pneumatic struts so it won't stay put when hinged up to the roof. Can anything be done about this?

Give these guys a try. I have used them several times for straightforward hatchback or bonnet struts : https://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/replace
Otherwise try FRF volvo in Swansea. See their post in the trader section - you will need to phone them and quote the forum discount code |

£35.98 a pair delivered. The genuine ones would cost you £50.91 delivered but I'd not worry about the Volvo genuineness of this sort of item as it will operate infrequently and pose no problem even if it were to deteriorate, which it is unlikely to do. |
Funny this topic should come up as I was braking in my XC70 the other day and the guard in mine dropped and hit the rear cover. Time for struts for me too.

I got a genuine pair from my local Volvo dealer and they were not expensive at all.
TOP TIP. Drop the back seats and move the cage forward to release all the pressure form the struts to remove and install the new items. |
On the subject of the dog guard, what on earth are the front dog-guard mounting points for, 'cos they sure as 'eck don't allow the fitting of the dog guard! I originally thought a sensible idea in case you had the seats down and full load but ...
Can't find any Volvo parts that fit or do anything for that location either. Or is there a trick to it I don't know? |

Can also be used with the rear seats up, instead of the metal grill. It’s another accessory of questionable use and usually lives unused in the storage tray under the rear floor! |
Yes, I had a similar arrangement in an old Merc. Useful occasionally if you lug bits about but probably not used that much by many.
