brake problem

so driving home from the school run today and pressed brake while cornering pedal was hard and felt like abs was kickin in,after that pedal almost immediately dropped to the floor.
car has used a bit of brake fluid lately, could it be a sign of master cylinder leaking?
thanks as ever

In a separate thread, you mentioned noise from a front wheel, and fluid on your engine. Together with today's problems with the brakes, sound like it could all be connected. Can I suggest getting it into a garage, pronto...?

meant to update on that, but too ashamed lol!. when someone suggests start with the simple things like checking that the wheel nuts are tight. do so. lol. first problem solved. next problem with leak turned out to be rubber seal round the oil filter which has now been serviced. just left with the brake problem now.

Check the rear calipers for any leaks, it seems that our cars sometimes have an issue with the rear calipers which usually stick or might leak, check for any moisture around there.

yes one of my rear calipers had stuck sorted now though, so as mitch says have a look at the calipers.
