Do all V70s have an emergency fuel door release?
 

As per title, I am slowly getting a newly acquired "tired" 1997 V70 ready for duties. Upon cleaning out the boot and behind trim panels pitted from years of garden runs I noticed it has no wire pull where my many previous 850s and V70s have had one!:shocked:

There is no wire and no guide clip. Did Volvo do without for a couple of years or has someone yanked it off you think?

As I have experienced fuel door failure many times before (usually in a petrol station on empty) is it possible to retrofit a cable? Does anyone have any close up shots of a fuel door lock motor? Feeling around I can't even find any "finger oulls" like RObert DIY shows on his video for a failure on an S70.

Id like to get the boot panels back together soon, whilst not hard its a bit of a faff and not something I want to do in desperation. Any quick advice greatly appreciated.

it should have an internal release but its easy enough to remove and retro fit your own .

My V70 doesn't have the cable release and there's no evidence that there may have been one that's been removed. (I remember using the one on my 850 though)

I have a V70 with the same date as your car, I have not noticed an interior pull for the fuel flap-- BUT never delved too far at this stage, I do intend to look further and fit the same if not.

My C70 has a nylon pull cord neatly stored behind the trim panel. All original Volvo fitment. It does seem strange that Volvo would fit such a thing, then delete only to fit on subsequent years. I've just checked the V40 and that is similar to the C70.

p2 release is different than the 850 pull ring type i have both types different cars. fuel door latches are known to stick so its worth taking off to clean and lube and fit release if yours is missing /broken

My 2005 XC70 did not have a the manual pull cord fitted so when I recently had the lock out for cleaning and lubrication after a couple of slow unlocks I simply tied some strong lacing twine to the relevant part which already hole provided.

Just check it does not get trapped on installation of the lock back in the car.

The cord is then just draped behind the insulation behind the removable panel in the back of the car.

No internal fuel release &no tailgate keyhole/inside releas
 

As part of the "improvements" on later models, these features are absent. Having no means to unlock the fuel flap manually is only annoying if there is a fault. Same with the tailgate..no keyhole nor inside latch like older Volvos (245, 745, 945).

Worse still the driver's door cannot be unlocked manually with the key when the battery is flat... it needs electricity to unlock, and without opening the door, the bonnet cannot be opened to attach jump leads.

Solution.. find a live wire (under the nearside front wheel) running from the battery and cut through the insulation to clip on a charger or power pack, and enough power is available to unlock everything.

1999 T5 V70

on the v70 with 7 seats a key hole can be found under a blank rubber grommet near the number plate lights .

I was just about to post about this problem with my 1999 V70. I've just come in with scraped knuckles from trying to find how to manually work the actuator. I only managed to get the side carpets partly off but did manged to get my hand on the actuator. Of course I don't know what I am feeling for. Found some pics which seem to show a short green plastic puller and I haven't been back to check that. Might be on P2 and/or P3 cars possibly XC's which have different side panels.
I pulled into the garage for petrol with the the low fuel light on after collecting the car from the garage after MOT and had to drive home when I couldn't get the flap open. Catch 22 situation at the moment!
Hopefully someone has had their hand in there recently and remembers how to give the right bit a pull or push. I've noted the picture in the previous post.
