rear ABS tone ring location -SOLVED
 

Been a nightmare trying to figure out this ABS light/anti-skid requires service warning lights issue.
I replaced the ABS driver rear sensor. Still lights.
I took to indy mech and he said ABS sensor bad. I replaced it and still warning light. Went back and he said ABS sensor is good, however, the tone ring is broken and teeth missing. I failed to have him take a pic or ask where the ring was located. My bad.
I thought the the rear tone ring was on the CV Joint axle. I got a used one in the mail without the tone ring. I call the seller and he did not know anything about an ABS ring.
I called Volvo dealer and talked to a technician. He did not know where the ring was located. He sent me to parts dept. The part guy said "Wait a minute the tone ring for the rear is in the wheel bearing housing NOT on the CV Joint axle outer side like the front is. The clouds opened and the music played ..etc!
So no wonder the rear CV Axles new or used don't show the rear tone ring: Cause it ain't there.
Now down a different,hopefully shorter time to replace bad part path.
A the rear wheel bearing is a whole lot cheaper than the axle assembly.
Hope someone else can learn from this long before I did.

Anyone using RockAuto for parts. What would be a good choice for the bearing?

The full exploded parts diagram for your car is available online

You can identify the location and size and shape of the part sitting at home on your PC, and then print out what you need and take it to the Volvo parts dept.

The problem is the exploded diagrams from Volvo don't show a rear tone ring. I see the rear wheel bearing. You have to intuitively know it's incorporated into the rear wheel bearing.
They are great exploded diagrams though, don't get me wrong.
I've Google the daylights out of "where is the rear ABS tone ring located on a 2005 s60 AWD" without any results.

Found it in 2 minutes in VIDA (highlighted in blue):

There are four wheel sensors, one at each wheel. The wheel sensors supply the control module with information about the rotation speed, acceleration and retardation of each wheel. By recording the pulses, the control module can calculate the wheel speed.

The wheel sensors are active sensors. When the pulse wheel rotates, the sensor generates a pulsed current (quadratic wave) where the strength of the current depends on the position of the pulse wheel. The signals from the coils in the wheel sensors are then affected by a magnetic resistance element, which generates a current which changes between 7mA and 14mA, and whose frequency increases with speed.

On the front wheels, the pulse wheel is pressed onto the outer constant velocity joint and the wheel sensors are located radially in the shaft housing relative to the pulse wheel. On the rear wheels, the pulse wheel is pressed onto the hub and the wheel sensors are located axially relative to the pulse wheel. Both the front and rear pulse wheels have 48 teeth. In the event of a fault in any of the wheel sensors the following systems will be disengaged or will not engage:

Should there be a questiomark at the end? Then yes, it is something you can download.
There are several versions, mostly a few per year the software came out.

There is a patch to make it work, so I am not sure about the legality of using it.

I have had a working version on my Windows XP laptop, but it no longer works. Supposedly because the patch has an end-date (which has passed).

So if you want to have it, I suggest you google for a few hours about patches (that run out in 2017, 2050 or 2099), different versions (VIDA2012D, VIDA2014A, etc), working on different Windows versions (7, 10 professional, 10 home), etc.
