Heater control valves/cabin temperature

Good afternoon,

I'm having cabin temperature issues and not sure whether its an inherent 245 problem or because of my new heater control valve as I've never had the car on a long journey before this weekend.

I've recently replaced the leaking heater control valve in my early 245 with a later model kit that skandix sell, using the plastic type valve.

I noticed when installing at that when the valve was shut, it wasn't a tight seal (you could still blow through it).

Now even with all heater sliders fully left (and the valve confirmed closed) there is quite a bit of heat that radiates from the dashboard and air vents (other than the centre ones which are cool).

I was on a 400 mile journey this weekend and had to have the windows down most of the way even though it was only 16/17 degrees.

Is this an inherent problem of having a 1970's Volvo, or would a different heater valve solve my problem?

Hi,

Not something I've ever noticed - but the valves in both my cars are genuine Volvo ones, taken from scrap cars when they needed replacing, rather than a Scandix one.

I'd email them and explain the problem - they might send you a replacement.

I imagine 400 miles with the windows open the whole time was a bit tiresome.

Cheers
