dropping revs
 

I need some advice from you lot about my car.

It starts fine, engine runs smoothly. The problem we have is when you put the clutch down to come to a stop, sometimes the car will either stall or almost stall, more so when it's cold. Othertimes it's fine.

A new set of sparkplugs has improved the situation to the point where it isn't doing it as often (the old ones were black, sooty and burnt), but still occasionally.

I have had the ETM checked and it had a new MAF in Jan 2008. What is next to rule out?

As you said when cold, consider having the CTS (coolant temperature sensor) checked / replaced.

They're not terribly expensive or difficult to replace, and they can be tested to see that they're working OK. You'd probably have codes stored if it was playing up.

I don't have a code reader, should probably get one. Do most volvo's use the same one? If they do it might be a worthwhile family investment.

There's my car, my dad has a 1998 S70 2.0 10V, brother has a 1998 V40 2.0T and mum has a 960.

Basically all the cars except yours, and maybe the 960 depending on which engine is fitted, are not OBDII compliant, the 10V car's engine ECU can be read using flash codes.

so buying one code reader to suit all is not a goer then :nah:

Anyone got any more ideas on the stalling problem?

We can all throw speculation as to what it might be, but either reading or gettings the codes read would be the next best thing. Do you use a Volvo dealer, or an independent for servicing? If getting or making a code reader is not something that's going to be that easy for you, I'd see if you can get either a good Volvo specialist / independent to read any codes, or failing that, perhaps your nearest Volvo dealers.

I thought those didn't work on cars with ME7?

My car is a 2000 2.5 10V V70 Classic with ME7

It won't work with ME7 but I don't think any 10 Valve cars or non turbo ones had ME7.
In fact I didn't think the 10V engine was used after '98.

That puzzled me, too.

I was going to suggest checking out some of the ignition components, but read the OP, which mentioned ETM and MAF which kind of seemed odd for a 2.5 10v.

Is it definitely a 10v, or is it a 140bhp 2.5 20v?
