Odd fuel gauge problem

2006 2.5T petrol MY. Over the last few weeks I have noticed that my fuel gauge was reading zero - with NO red light showing. The mileage "computers" were all showing __.__. All other gauges were behaving normally. After I stopped and came back and restarted - it was reading normally again. I filled up at the weekend and all was fine. I have just been out and it was again reading zero until I stopped, switched off the ignition and restarted - where it went straight up to full.
I cant find much on here relating to this. Anyone any thoughts on where to look - sticky fuel sender (seems unlikely) electrical glitch (more likely?) but where to look. Would VIDA be helpful ? I am not too concerned about it at this stage but would rather know whats causing it and how to fix it.

Thanks, but it doesnt mention faulty gauges in the symptoms list - just "faulty LCD displays" - which "may" relate to the trip computer "blankness" - but I put that down to the calculator just not receiving a signal re. the petrol amount left in tank - i.e its dividing miles by a 0

VIDA is your next port of call. then...

Get you car into the fault condition and then
a) do a gauge sweep to test the gauge itself
b) measure the tank content
c) check the fuel level sender (I think...)
