Hi, My 1966 P1800S has a set of 165 80 R15 tyres. I have a new set of 195 65 R15 tyres that I bought for another car but had to remove (wrong size !).

Before I try, does anyone know if these would fit without fouling the wheel arches?

The diameter of the "new" tyres is slightly smaller (by 10mm) but the 195s are also wider by 30mm - they stick out by 15mm on either side

As said, they will be fine but a fraction smaller in diameter. If you can, check the speedo against a GPS on a phone.

Hey, the great thing about P1800 and Amazon Estate wheels is they're half an inch wider, so you can put 195 65 15 tyres on them really well.

That way, you're reassured there's no change to offset - that's really important - as well as back space and forward face; all that puts additional forces on suspension components and bearings if you go to a bigger wheel.

These old cars were designed to have a good amount of flex in the tyres in hard cornering unlike modern cars with low profile tyres. You look at pictures of old cars cornering hard with low profile tryes and you'll see the inner edges of the tyres making no contact with the tarmac.

I usually have to shut up at this point because so many have gone down the route of wide wheels and low profile tyres often on misinformation about improving performance. Yes, they look great but for me, it's a no.

However, 195 65 15's on a 4.5J rim gives many benefits.

I put the new ones next to the fitted tyres today and I must say that they look nicely purposeful. They do however give the car a more modern look. I’m assuming that the steering will be heavier due to the width.

Might give the new ones a try but keep the old ones.

Been running on 195's for over 20 years. No clearance issues with.

Steering is still nice and light with them fitted
