Thatcham approved immobiliser

Hi Guys -

Just had my new insurance documentation through and one of the stipulations is that it must have a 'Thatcham approved immobiliser'. I just phoned the insurance company and they've told me that the factory fitted Volvo immobiliser is Thatcham approved so I shouldn't have any problems.

I'm just a little worried as they do state that if the device isn't approved the car will not be covered should it be stolen!

My car is 53 plate XC90 D5 SE - anyone know if the standard fitment alarm and immobiliser is approved?

BTW - the company is called Sureterm and they gave what I thought was a great price of £300 inc courtesy car for myself and the wife.

Many thanks in advance

Matt

Sometimes I think people just like to worry about something. You should relax a bit...

...You called the insurance company; They said the manufacturers immobilizer is Thatcham Approved. So don't worry about it.

In the unlikely event that your car is stolen, if it went to court you would just say that the insurance company approved it. I highly doubt you would lose.

Besides new cars these days are a lot harder to steal than older cars, so if the car is stolen, they either broke into your house an took the keys (happened to me) or you left the keys in the car while in a shop (never happened to me). in either case they would have the keys and your insurance company might refute the claim.
